Obedience

Through obedience we can receive strength.
“The strength which we earnestly seek today to meet the challenges of a complex and changing world can be ours when, with fortitude and resolute courage, we stand and declare with Joshua, ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.’”
- President Thomas S. Monson, "Finding Strength through Obedience," Oct. 2009, Ensign

This is a wonderful message that will be sure to keep us safe.
"There is no need for you or me in this enlightened age, when the fulness of the gospel has been restored, to sail uncharted seas or travel unmarked roads in search of a “fountain of truth.” For a living Heavenly Father has plotted our course and provided an unfailing map—obedience."
- President Thomas S. Monson, "Finding Strength through Obedience," Oct. 2009, Ensign

This quote taught me that if I consider my love for the Savior, I am being obedient for the right reasons.
"The “what” and “how” of obedience mark the way and keep us on the right path. The “why” of obedience sanctifies our actions, transforming the mundane into the majestic. It magnifies our small acts of obedience into holy acts of consecration."
- President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Forget Me Not" General Relief Society Broadcast, Sept. 2011.

I chose this quote because I am constantly telling my family and friends that I cannot expect my children to follow the rules, if I don't. Same thing applies to heeding the counsel of the Prophet.
"As parents and adult leaders of youth, we cannot expect our young people to take to heart the things the prophet says to them if we show a complacent attitude toward his counsel in our own lives."
- Elder M. Russell Ballard, "His Word Ye Shall Receive," Ensign, May 2001, 66

This is one of my favorite quotes of all time, and a principle that changed my life once I gained a testimony of it.
"Obedience opens the door to the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. And the spiritual gifts and abilities activated by the power of the Holy Ghost enable us to avoid deception—and to see, to feel, to know, to understand, and to remember things as they really are."
- Elder David A. Bednar, "Things as They Really Are" Church Educational System fireside for young adults, May 3, 2009

I chose this quote because I have seen it work in my life. When I disobeyed certain principles, I had no control over my situation. When I am obedient, I am blessed with the power to act. True story.
“As we walk in obedience to the principles and commandments of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we enjoy a continual flow of blessings promised by God in His covenant with us. Those blessings provide the resources we need to act rather than simply be acted upon as we go through life.”
- Elder D. Todd Christofferson,  "The Power of Covenants," General Conference, Apr. 2009.

I chose this quote because it is simple and direct.
"The gospel is so very simple when we understand it properly. It is always right, it is always good, it is always uplifting. Obedience to gospel principles brings forth joy and happiness. Disobedience has a day of reckoning and will only bring forth heartache, misery, strife, and unhappiness."
-Elder L. Tom Perry, "What Should We Do on the Sabbath?" New Era, July 2010, 3

This is something I have seen in my life.  Although it has took me a while, I have reached a point where I am happily obedient.
"When we truly understand what it means to love as Jesus Christ loves us, the confusion clears and our priorities align. Our walk as disciples of Christ becomes more joyful. Our lives take on new meaning. Our relationship with our Heavenly Father becomes more profound. Obedience becomes a joy rather than a burden."
- President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "The Love of God," General Conference, Oct. 2009.

This is a great reminder when I doubt if I will receive and answer to my prayers. If I am obedient, I am assured one.
"Obedience assures us an answer to our prayers. We read in the New Testament that “whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight” (1 John 3:22)."
-President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Prayer and the Blue Horizon," Liahona, June 2009.

I chose this quote because again, I am reminded that if I am obedient, I have no reason to doubt that my prayers will be answered.
"In times of distress, let your covenants be paramount and let your obedience be exact. Then you can ask in faith, nothing wavering, according to your need, and God will answer. He will sustain you as you work and watch. In His own time and way He will stretch forth his hand to you, saying, 'Here am I.'"
- Elder D. Todd Christofferson, "The Power of Covenants," General Conference, Apr. 2009.
