Pride

I chose this quote because it reminds me that pride is a universal sin. No one is above it.
"Every mortal has at least a casual if not intimate relationship with the sin of pride. No one has avoided it; few overcome it."
-President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Pride and the Priesthood," Priesthood Session, Oct. 2010.

I found this interesting and never considered that every sin is a result for pride. Very enlightening.
"Pride is a deadly cancer. It is a gateway sin that leads to a host of other human weaknesses. In fact, it could be said that every other sin is, in essence, a manifestation of pride."
- President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Pride and the Priesthood," Priesthood Session, Oct. 2010.

This is wise counsel on how we can rid ourselves of pride.
"Humility directs our attention and love toward others and to Heavenly Father’s purposes. Pride does the opposite. Pride draws its energy and strength from the deep wells of selfishness. The moment we stop obsessing with ourselves and lose ourselves in service, our pride diminishes and begins to die."
- President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Pride and the Priesthood," Priesthood Session, Oct. 2010.

This is is a humbling exercise and great way to be reminded of where we can improve.
"Considering the attributes of Jesus Christ should quash the pride of the self-satisfied person who thinks he or she has no need to improve."
- Henry B. Eyring, "Our Perfect Example," General Conference, Oct. 2009.

This is a great quote because it focuses on the fact that true followers of Christ understand that is not our possessions that define us, it is who we are.
"Disciples of Jesus Christ understand that compared to eternity, our existence in this mortal sphere is only “a small moment” in space and time. They know that a person’s true value has little to do with what the world holds in high esteem. They know you could pile up the accumulated currency of the entire world and it could not buy a loaf of bread in the economy of heaven."
-President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "You Matter to Him,"General Conference, Oct. 2011

I chose this quote because its reminds me that pride is a divider.
"Pride is the great enemy of unity."
- President Henry B. Eyring, "Our Hearts Knit as One," General Conference, Oct. 2008.

This quote is a great reminder that pride stunts our spiritual growth.
"For spirituality to grow stronger and more available, it must be planted in a righteous environment. Haughtiness, pride, and conceit are like stony ground that will never produce spiritual fruit."
-Elder Richard G. Scott, "How to Obtain Revelation and Inspiration for Your Personal Life," General Conference, Apr. 2012.

This is great counsel when we speak to others who are not of our faith or those that have fallen away.
"We should never confuse boldness with Satan’s counterfeit: overbearance (see Alma 38:12). True disciples speak with quiet confidence, not boastful pride."
- Elder Robert D. Hales, "Christian Courage: The Price of Discipleship," General Conference, Oct. 2008

This is a clarifying statement for me.
"Pride is characterized by “What do I want out of life?” rather than by “What would God have me do with my life?” It is self-will as opposed to God’s will. It is the fear of man over the fear of God."
-President Ezra Taft Benson, "Cleansing the Inner Vessel," General Conference, Apr. 1986.

I learned a lot from this statement. I would never want to be in a state of opposition with God. It makes sense that it was Satan's pride that destroyed him.
"Most of us think of pride as self-centeredness, conceit, boastfulness, arrogance, or haughtiness. All of these are elements of the sin, but the heart, or core, is still missing.

The central feature of pride is enmity—enmity toward God and enmity toward our fellowmen. Enmity means “hatred toward, hostility to, or a state of opposition.” It is the power by which Satan wishes to reign over us."
-President Ezra Taft Benson,"Beware of Pride," General Conference, Apr. 1989.
