Repentance

I chose this quote because it helped me understand that I have a vital role in how I am judged. I have the ability to choose good but also to use the blessing got repentance to obtain blessings.
"The attributes by which we shall be judged one day are all spiritual. These include love, virtue, integrity, compassion, and service to others. Your spirit, coupled with and housed in your body, is able to develop and manifest these attributes in ways that are vital to your eternal progression. Spiritual progress is attained through the steps of faith, repentance, baptism, the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end, including the endowment and sealing ordinances of the holy temple."
—Elder Russell M. Nelson, "Thanks Be to God", General Conference, Apr. 2012

This quote brings to mind so of  the times that I have been hesitant to repent but finally done so and then found joy and peace in forgiveness.
"We have all made incorrect choices. If we have not already corrected such choices, I assure you that there is a way to do so. The process is called repentance. I plead with you to correct your mistakes. Our Savior died to provide you and me that blessed gift. Although the path is not easy, the promise is real: “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” “And I, the Lord, remember them no more.” Don’t put your eternal life at risk. If you have sinned, the sooner you begin to make your way back, the sooner you will find the sweet peace and joy that come with the miracle of forgiveness."
- President Thomas S. Monson, "The Three Rs of Choice," General Conference, April 2010.

I chose this because it reminds me that we cannot expect to gain forgiveness without repentance.
"The doctrine is clear. We all depend on the Savior; none of us can be saved without Him. Christ’s Atonement is infinite and eternal. Forgiveness for our sins comes with conditions. We must repent, and we must be willing to forgive others. Jesus taught, ‘Forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not … [stands] condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin’ and ‘Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.’"
—President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "The Merciful Obtain Mercy", General Conference, Apr. 2012

I like this quote. We have an opportunity to repent each week and become better as we partake of the sacrament.
"I testify that the sacrament gives us an opportunity to come to ourselves and experience ‘a mighty change’ of heart—to remember who we are and what we most desire. As we renew the covenant to keep the commandments, we obtain the companionship of the Holy Ghost to lead us back into our Heavenly Father’s presence. No wonder we are commanded to ‘meet together oft to partake of [the] bread and [water]’ and to partake of the sacrament to our souls."
—Elder Robert D. Hales, "Coming to Ourselves: The Sacrament, the Temple, and Sacrifice in Service",General Conference, Apr. 2012

I appreciate that Elder Scott refers to repentance as a cure to an illness. If we were sick, we would take measures to get better. That same should be said of sin.
"If one of you has seriously sinned, repent—now. It is not good to violate the commandments of the Lord. It is worse to do nothing about it. Sin is like cancer in the body. It will never heal itself. It will become progressively worse unless cured through the medicine of repentance."
- Elder Richard G. Scott, "Don't Face the World Alone," New Era, Feb. 2007, 5

I chose this quote because it is sometimes easier to rationalize than repent, but blessings will only come through repentance.
"Rationalization for bad choices will not be effective, but repentance will. Those who repent will be particularly blessed by the Atonement."
- Elder Quentin L. Cook, "Strengthen Faith as You Seek Knowledge," New Era, Sept. 2008, 6

This was a sweet reminder to me of how much our Father in Heaven loves us.
“The invitation to repent is rarely a voice of chastisement but rather a loving appeal to turn around and to ‘re-turn’ toward God. It is the beckoning of a loving Father and His Only Begotten Son to be more than we are, to reach up to a higher way of life, to change, and to feel the happiness of keeping the commandments.”
- Elder Neil L. Andersen, “Repent . . . That I May Heal You,” Ensign, Nov. 2009, 40.

I chose this quote because I need to improve my daily repentance and it reminds me why.
“We must become converted to daily repentance. President Benson taught that many of our troubles sprout from pride, which he defined as a selfish pitting of our will against God’s (see Ensign, May 1989, 4–7). We repent as we follow the Savior’s example in doing ‘not as I will, but as thou wilt’ (Matt. 26:39). As we gain sufficient faith and trust to meekly surrender ourselves to the Lord’s way, we are repenting.”
- Elder Neil L. Andersen, “Clean Again!” New Era, Apr. 1997, 4.

I especially love this quote. Everyone needs repentance and forgiveness.. Our forgiveness is guaranteed only of we repent.
"Repentance is a continuing process, needed by all because “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23.) Repentance is possible, and then forgiveness is certain."
- Dallin H. Oaks, “Sin and Suffering," BYU Fireside, 5 August 1990.

This statement is important for each one of us. We have to individually do the work to receive the blessings.
“True repentance must come to each individual. It cannot be accomplished by proxy. One can neither buy nor borrow nor traffic in it. There is no royal road to repentance: whether he be a president’s son or a king’s daughter, an emperor’s prince or a lowly peasant, he must himself repent and his repentance must be personal and individual and humble.”
- President Spencer W. Kimball, “What Is True Repentance?” New Era, May 1974, 4.
